You’re an intelligent, motivated person. Of course you have questions for me!

  • Talking helps. Connecting with someone who cares helps. Learning more about the scary parts of yourself helps. Venting about your crappy day helps. Letting go of the past helps. Releasing fear about the future helps. Having a space and time that is only about you helps.

I’m always amazed by the magic of therapy. That something as simple as talking to someone who cares can offer such a deep, transformative experience for a person. When you find the right therapist for you, it’s true: therapy helps. If you think I might be that person, let’s talk more.

  • Every person comes to therapy for a different reason and with a different goal in mind. Sometimes it’s because you need to feel immediate relief over a distressing situation, sometimes it’s because you are ready to explore some of the patterns of behavior and thought that have been holding you back for years. Whatever the reason, we will collaborate on your treatment and determine together what timeline makes the most sense for you.

In the beginning stages of therapy, I recommend that all my clients come to session once a week for 50 minutes so that we can keep up the momentum and build a strong therapeutic relationship.

  • I work with clients who identify as highly sensitive as well as people impacted by anxiety and panic, depression and grief, trauma and PTSD/CPTSD, addiction, phobias, somatic issues, and chronic illness. I also specialize in working with members of polyamorous and LGBTQIA+ communities.

  • I get very good results with the issues above because I limit my focus to these specific areas of expertise. Please know that there is a therapist out there who can help you if you are struggling with something I don’t treat. If you feel a connection with me after reading through my website and would still like to reach out, I’m happy to speak with you and refer you to a therapist in my professional network who may be a great match.

  • I am a licensed clinical social worker with post-graduate training in modern psychoanalysis, clinical hypnotherapy, emotional freedom technique (tapping), and trauma-informed reiki. I’ve been a therapist for more than a decade and helped people just like you! I am also an author, a professional public speaker, and the founder of a reproductive justice organization. My work has been featured in more than a dozen publications.

  • I welcome questions my clients have for me, if they desire to learn more. As we get to know each other better, I think you will see that I’m curious, compassionate, fiercely loyal, and love to laugh. I’m also a big fan of “guilty pleasures” and adore a wicked sense of humor.

  • My office is conveniently located in beautiful, tree-lined Prospect Heights, steps away from Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Park, and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. Multiple subway lines are within a short walk.

  • Why, yes, I do! Teletherapy is an amazing new development in the world of mental and emotional health (thank you, Covid??) It allows us to have a deep, transformative session without you having to leave your house or your office or find a babysitter for your kiddos. How does it work? It’s just like Facetime or Zoom. You’ll call me and we’ll talk about what’s going on in your life, just like we would if you were in my office sitting across from me.

  • I work Monday - Thursday 8am- 5pm. All the therapies I practice can be done in person or virtually.

  • Making the first call can sometimes be the most excruciating part, especially when you are so busy and overwhelmed. I make it simple. You can call me (347-422-6828) or email me (mary@marymahoneytherapy.com) to set up a free phone consultation. Since you’re already on my website, you can also send me a message here right now!

During the initial consultation I’ll ask you to tell me a little bit about yourself and what brings you to therapy. I’ll also happily answer any questions you have for me. If you feel like moving forward with me, we’ll set up the first in-person session. That’s it!

  • Individual therapy sessions are $200. If you are looking to do only hypnotherapy or tapping, please consult those pages for pricing and package deals.

  • I accept credit card, cash, check, and HSA - whatever is most convenient for you each week!

  • I am considered out of network on insurance panels. Please check with your insurance to determine if you can see an out of network clinician and what you should expect for reimbursement. I will work with you to submit for insurance reimbursement by providing monthly statements for your records, as requested.

  • I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. This means that if you do not let me know you won’t be at your session at least 48 hours in advance, you will still be charged the cost of your session. If there is an extenuating circumstance that causes you to miss this window we can discuss together what the appropriate fee should be.

  • I am one of the last living people on earth who loves to talk on the phone - please give me a call anytime, and I will happily answer your questions.
